Who’s responsible for crimes in Libya?

Abdullah al-Maghrabi

2

Libya was the most prosperous country in North Africa yet after Nato’s 2011 attack, it has been turned into a failed State. Those responsible for this crime should be punished.

Libya, the North African country, lies in shambles. This is the direct result of Western intervention in 2011. As your editorial, “Libya comes full circle in five years” (CI, October 2016) pointed out, the Western regimes used UN Security Council Resolution No. 1973, imposing a no fly-zone, as a license to shoot and kill. Not only was the regime of Muammar Qaddafi overthrown, the floodgates of hell were also flung wide open. The mayhem in Iraq and Syria is the direct result of the destruction of Libya. Weapons looted in Libya were smuggled into these countries via Turkey.

Libya has gone from being one of the most stable and prosperous with free medical facilities, free education, and a huge government stipend to every Libyan getting married to virtually a basket case now. There is no safety or security; people live in constant fear. Libya as a country has ceased to exist.

The rulers of Western regimes are directly responsible for Libya’s destruction, killings, and dismemberment. They should be held accountable and charged with war crimes.
