On June 11, Donald Trump announced another one of his ridiculous decrees.
This one was about authorizing economic and travel sanctions against International Criminal Court (ICC) officials directly involved in investigating American troops and intelligence officials and those of US allies, including Israel, for possible war crimes in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
The Qatari regime funded TV channel, Al Jazeera, quoted White House press secretary stating that the US “has repeatedly rejected the International Criminal Court's assertions of jurisdiction over United States personnel" and that the new decree would block the financial assets of court employees and bar them and their immediate relatives from entering the US.
The key part in the Trump regime’s statement is the word “repeatedly”. In practical terms, Trump’s recent announcement is nothing new.
All US presidents preach and practice extreme arrogance, presented in political jargon as “US exceptionalism”.
It is not by accident that the leader of the only contemporary Islamic Revolution and State, Imam Khamenei, refers to the US as “global arrogance”.
The Trump regime’s recent pronouncement on the ICC is a blessing in disguise.
The most positive aspect of his presidency is that through extreme ignorance, Trump has unmasked the ugly face of US imperialism leaving no one in any doubt.
In 2013, when analyzing Barak Obama’s state of the union address, Crescent International had pointed out that he has an excellent speech writer and that it will be very difficult for the US ruling caste to invent a substitute for him.
We pointed out that Obama and many other US politicians understood that Bush's policies of direct military intervention and open support of assorted tyrants had damaged the US image immensely.
Obama frequently mentioned this during his first election campaign (2008) and promised to fix it. The only promise Obama managed to fulfill was to improve America’s image.
He failed, however, to make major improvements in other areas: the economy, foreign policy and health care.
Political temperature in the US is rising to a degree where the Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden had to hint at possible involvement of the US military if Trump loses and refuses to vacate the White House.
While this could happen, what should also not be excluded is Biden losing and US politicians masquerading as liberals refusing to concede defeat. This could turn into a huge mess.
True, Trump’s second-term presidency would be a disaster for the entire world but it will also help eliminate any pretensions of US imperial hubris.
Seen in the broader context, this would not be such a bad outcome. Sometimes the things we dislike, are good for us.
