As more and more information comes out about Omar Mateen, the alleged nightclub shooter in Orlando, it raises more questions. Was he gay, as the nightclub patrons have revealed or mentally unstable as his ex-wife has said, or both? And was he used by the FBI to carry out this dastardly crime? These questions need answers.

It is getting curiouser and curiouser, as Alice said in Alice in Wonderland. Omar Mateen, the ‘alleged’ shooter at the Pulse nightclub for gays and lesbians was also reportedly gay! We say ‘alleged’ because he has not been convicted of the crime yet, although it is a moot point since dead people cannot be charged and convicted. Nor can they speak.
A number of patrons at the club have confirmed that Mateen frequented the club regularly and used to get drunk. He also reportedly tried to pick up a number of men for sexual relations. Was he indulging in bacha bazi, a traditional Afghan habit in which older men befriend teenage boys for sex? It is not legal in Afghanistan but accepted as the norm. There are few laws in Afghanistan anyway.
Now if Mateen were an ISIS supporter, as the police and FBI claim, this would be first case of an openly gay member of ISIS. Now let us walk through this slowly. Let us assume Mateen was gay and supporter of ISIS, in takfiristan (aka ISIS-land), he would get 80 lashes for each time he gets drunk.
Since he was a regular drinker at Pulse, he would have clocked a lot of lashes—like the frequent flyer program—if he ever set foot in takfiristan.
As for his being gay, the takfiris would have stoned him to death. If Mateen was involved in this lifestyle for 10 years, there would not be enough stones in Al-Raqqah—the takfiri capital in north-east Syria—to deliver a just verdict!
There is another twist to this sordid saga. His current wife Noor Salman is reported to have said she tried to talk her husband out of carrying out the terrorist act. She even allegedly admitted to driving him to scout the Pulse nightclub. Why would that be necessary if Mateen was a frequent visitor at the club?
Reuters quoting police sources reported today (Wednesday June 15) that a federal grand jury had been convened and could charge Mateen’s wife, Noor Salman.
"It appears she had some knowledge of what was going on," said Senator Angus King, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which was briefed on June 14 about the attack.
"She definitely is, I guess you would say, a person of interest right now and appears to be cooperating and can provide us with some important information," King told CNN.
Federal investigators have said Mateen was likely self-radicalised and there was no evidence that he received any instructions or aid from outside groups such as Islamic State.
Another piece of the jigsaw puzzle involves his alleged support of various radical groups. He is reported to have pledged support to ISIS (as per claims by the police that he placed a 911 call from the club declaring support for ISIS). He is also reported to have uttered support for a number of other radical organizations including Hizbullah.
Now this last one should be a complete giveaway. ISIS and Hizbullah are deadly enemies. Hizbullah fighters have been battling ISIS terrorists in Syria and have sustained considerable losses in confronting the takfiri monsters unleashed by Saudi Arabia.
This lends credibility to the claims by Mateen’s ex-wife that he was mentally unstable. If so, this raises another question.
In the past, intelligence agencies in the US, Canada and Europe have used mentally deranged individuals and manipulated them into carrying out various terrorist acts. Can Mateen’s case be any different given that he was known to the FBI and had been interrogated on numerous occasions?
Some commentators, among them Paul Craig Roberts, former senior treasury official in the Reagan regime, have raised some pertinent questions. First, why no bodies of the victims or the alleged perpetrators have been shown?
Were 49 people actually killed and why there were so few ambulances outside the Pulse nightclub while ordinary people were ‘seen’ helping the few wounded?
These questions need answers. The official version has too many holes to believe it willy-nilly.
What all this points to is that perhaps Mateen, a mental case, was used by the FBI. Even President Obama admitted that he was mentally unstable. Can mentally deranged people be accused of terrorism?
