Polls to elect the mayor of New York City had opened early (6 am) on Tuesday November 4.

They closed at 9 pm.

Even as voters were heading to the polls in record numbers, two major betting markets had declared Zohran Mamdani the winner.

His chances of winning the New York City mayoral race were placed at over 90%.

The self described Democratic Socialist, the 34-year-old Mamdani had dominated news not just in New York City but across the country.

Within one hour of polls closing, most news network had declared Mamdani the winner, including PBS, AP, NPR and others.

The voter turnout at more than two million people casting ballot, also set a record.

The New York mayoral race eclipsed electoral contests elsewhere including the gubernatorial races in neighbouring New Jersey and Virginia states.

CNN declared Democrat Abigail Spanberger the winner in the gubernatorial race in Virginia.

Ghazala Hashmi, another democrat, won as Lt Governor of Virginia.

She is the first Muslim woman to be elected statewide.

In New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill beat Republican challenger Jack Ciaterrelli to become the governor.

In New York, meanwhile, ever since winning the Democratic nomination in June, Mamdani had been leading in opinion polls.

He beat Andrew Cuomo, former New York Governor, to clinch the Democratic nomination, much to chagrin of the party apparatchiks.

Cuomo then stood as an independent instead of supporting a fellow democrat against the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams was also in the race but dropped out in September.

His name, however, remained on the ballot.

Mamdani’s victory is not confined to New York City that boasts the world’s largest number of billionaires.

It is seen as a referendum on Donald Trump’s presidency almost a year into office.

It will also have a big impact on next year’s congressional elections.

Betting markets had already declared Mamdani the winner even before the polls closed.

Polymarket had placed Mamdani’s chances of winning at 92%.

Cuomo’s chances were at a paltry 8% while Sliwa trailed at less than 1%.
PredictIt had sold 2.8 million shares of Mamdani winning at 99 cents per share and Cuomo winning at 11 cents per share.

“The New York City mayoral race has officially moved from competitive to lopsided—and the betting markets are treating it as all but decided,” wrote Ben Mendelowitz at VegasInsider.

Not surprisingly, Mamdani’s young supporters are ecstatic at his resounding victory.

In the closing days of the campaign, his opponents, especially Cuomo resorted to crude racist and Islamophic rhetoric against Mamdani to try and scare New Yorkers.

It did not work.

Mamdani remained focused on issues.

New Yorkers also did not forget Cuomo’s sexual misconduct when he was governor of New York state.

He resigned in 2021 to avoid a public hearing into his sexual escapades.

In order to prevent Mamdani’s victory, at least 26 billionaires donated millions of dollars to anti-Mamdani groups.

All of them are zionists.

Forbes magazine reported a total of $22 million donated to groups opposing Mamdani.

Bloomberg donated $8.3 million to ‘Fix the City’ super PAC, which backed Cuomo.

Airbnb cofounder Joseph Gebbia also donated to the group.

The Lauder family donated to Fix the City, contributing $2.6 million to the super PAC and anti-Mamdani group Sensible City.

Hedge fund manager Bill Ackman put up $1.75 million to Fix the City and Defend NYC.

The donors’ list indicates they are all staunch zionists and rabidly anti-Muslim.

They see New York City slipping out of their control despite the city boasting the highest number of Jewish people outside of Israel.

Mamdani reached out to all segments of society and vowed to represent all New Yorkers.

Showing desperation, Trump also jumped into the fray against Mamdani.

Instead of backing the Republican Sliwa, Trump urged voters to back Cuomo.

He falsely accused Mamdani of being a “communist with no experience.”

The orangutan also threatened to withhold federal funding to New York City if Mamdani was elected mayor.

Wall Street, where the zio-billionaires make their killing, also weighed in on the Mamdani victory saying it would not be good for business.

Mamdani’s victory has let the cat among pigeons.

The mad scramble to prevent his victory will now be turned into undermining him in office.

It will definitely test Mamdani’s skills and his young idealistic supporters’s staying power.

American politics are tightly controlled.

Outsiders, especially someone who talks about the rights of the oppressed and the downtrodden, are not allowed to intrude into this domain.

How Mamdani will fare as mayor will be a major test of his skills and America’s so-called democracy.

History does not offer much hope.

Mamdani has a major challenges ahead of him despite winning the mayoral race.

In the west, electoral politics force candidates into compromises.

Mamdani has already made major compromises, especially on social issues.

What other compromises he will be forced to make will become clear in the weeks and months ahead.
