Relations between the Zionist entity and the unelected regime of Ilham Aliyev in Azerbaijan are deep but the latest revelations by Nijat Aliyev (no relation to Ilham), a prominent Azeri journalist, highlight unprecedented Israeli interference in the internal affairs of of the Republic.
Nijat Aliyev, Editor-in-chief of Azadxeber.net, an Islamic news website, who has been held since May 2012 revealed that he was tortured by an unidentified person from the Israeli embassy in Baku.
During his latest kangaroo court hearing on May 23, Nijat Aliyev exposed the torture he has been subjected to since his arrest. While it is widely known that the regime’s security forces routinely torture detainees, until recently it could not be confirmed that torture is outsourced to people connected to the Israeli embassy in Baku.
On May 23, Nijat Aliyev revealed that on the day he was arrested, after being tortured at the police station, he was driven in a PRADO car by the policeman who was not in uniform to the Israeli embassy. The Editor-in-chief of Azadxeber.net said that “upon our arrival near the Israeli embassy, the person driving the car beeped the horn of the car a couple of times. After that, a person came out of the Israeli embassy and sat next to the driver. After looking at me for 1-2 minutes, that person said, “Is this Bin Laden?” once the driver of the car said “yes it is,” the person who had emerged from the Israeli embassy began swearing at me and together with the other person in the car seating next to me, began to hit me. This continued until we arrived at the Yasamal District Polis station in Baku… After that day I have never seen that person from the Israeli embassy again.”
On February 12, 2012 the London Times published a detailed report about the operations of the notorious Israeli terrorist organization Mossad in Baku. While that report shed more light on the Israeli use of Azerbaijan as a sabotage base against Islamic Iran, it provided no details about the long suspected Israeli interference in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs.
Mossad has a history of cooperating with the most brutal torture institutions worldwide. Evidence of active Israeli involvement with SAVAK, a notorious spy agency of the pro-US Shah in Iran were made public by the Iranian government after the Islamic Revolution. Mossad members also trained in torture and “interrogation” the police and military of the apartheid regime in South Africa that terrorized its population for decades.
On April 16 pro-Zionist neo-con US think-tank, the Washington Institute for the Near East Policy (WINEP), published a report emphasizing Aliyev’s cooperation with Israel. WINEP highlighted that “Israel has been among Azerbaijan's top five trade partners in recent years. Baku is Israel's top oil supplier, providing around 40 percent of its annual consumption, while Israel is the sixth highest importer of Azerbaijani oil exports.” Since the start of intense repression against the Islamic movement in Azerbaijan in 2010, many Azeris citing internal government sources that are hostile to the Aliyev regime, said the hijab ban in public schools in Azerbaijan was carried out on orders from Tel Aviv.
Israeli policy of backing dictators in the Muslim world that guard Zionist interests ultimately fails. Events in Bahrain, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia show that this approach is destined to fail, it is simply a matter of time.
