Imran Khan injured in assassination attempt

Crescent International

The assailant is wearing a black jacket. The person behind him in red, white and black T-shirt was the one who tackled him and grabbed his gun. There could have been many more injuries and deaths had it not been for this brave individual pulling the assailant's gun down.

Former prime minister Imran Khan and several of his party members were injured when a gunman sprayed bullets with AK-47 at the container they were standing on today.

The assassination attempt occurred near Allah Walla Chowk in Wazirabad as Imran Khan’s long march entered its seventh day heading toward Islamabad.

“A man opened fire with an automatic weapon. Several people are wounded. Imran Khan is also injured,” PTI leader Asad Umar told Reuters.

Imran Khan was hit in the leg three or four times.

He was rushed to Shaukat Khan Hospital in Lahore and is believed to be out of danger.

The gunman was grabbed by the person standing behind him, preventing more injuries.

The brave person who tackled the gunman has been identified as Ibtisam Hassan.

Had it not been for his timely action, the bullets might have hit Imran Khan’s torso.

Ibtisam Hassan was able to push the gun down resulting in bullets hitting Imran Khan and his party members in their legs.

DJ Hamza who was on the container with Imran Khan was also injured.

He said that there were two or three gunmen. The one shown in video footage is seen with a pistol but the other gunman (or gunmen) had bigger guns, the AK-47.

The gunman with the pistol is in custody.

His confessional statement was broadcast on PTV, the government channel, raising serious doubts about his account that is full of contradictions.

Most seasoned observers see this as an attempt to divert attention from the real culprits.

After all, even after the gun was snatched from this man (identified in some accounts as Naveed), there was a burst of gunfire. Much bigger guns were involved.

Who wants to divert attention from the real criminals is not difficult to discern.

Senator Faisal Javed was hit in the cheek but the bullet only grazed his face, sustaining non-life-threatening injury.

Another PTI senior member Ahmed Chattha was also injured.

Speaking to the media from the hospital where he was being treated, Senator Faisal Javed said that a PTI worker was killed and another severely injured during the attack, believed to be Umer Meyer.

PTI leader from Sindh, Imran Ismail, said that Imran Khan has been shot in the leg “three to four” times.

Speaking to Bol TV, he said that he was standing next to the party chief atop the container when the shooting occurred.

The attacker was directly in front of the container and was wielding an AK-47, according to Ismail.

“They couldn’t stop him [Imran Khan] so they tried to kill him”, said PTI Secretary-General Asad Umar.

In a video message, Asad Umar further said that Imran Khan believes three people are behind the assassination attempt on him — Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, and a senior military officer.

The army officer was not named but informed observers believe it is Major General Faisal Naseer, ISI DG-C, who has been involved in a number of other torture cases of PTI members and journalists.

"Khan has said that he had the information beforehand that these people might be involved in the assassination attempt on him," Umar said during the same video statement.

Several politicians including the imported prime minister Shehbaz Sharif have issued statements condemning the attack.

Sharif said: “I have directed [the] interior minister for an immediate report on the incident. I pray for the recovery and health of [the] PTI chairman and other injured people.”

He said the federal government would extend all support necessary to the Punjab government for security and investigation.

“Violence should have no place in our country’s politics.”

Violence is what Shehbaz Sharif, his interior minister Rana Sanaullah, a notorious gangster and murderer, and the party they belong to (PML-N) have indulged in all their lives.

Who can forget the gruesome murder of 14 innocent people in Model Town attack in 2014?

Shehbaz Sharif was the chief minister of Punjab and Sanaullah the interior minister at the time.

There is ample evidence that the murderous attack was carried out at their express orders but has any legal action been taken against them?

It was PTI leader Shireen Mazari who put her finger on the reality when she said that the “string pullers and the establishment will be held responsible by the nation for this murderous attack on Imran Khan.”

In a tweet after the assassination attempt on Imran today, she called for Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah’s arrest.

Ms. Mazari pointed out that the interior minister had publicly threatened to “eliminate” Imran Khan.

Pakistan is rapidly descending into fascism.

The illegitimate regime backed by the military at the behest of the US is desperate in the face of the relentless pressure Imran Khan is building.

In particular, the top echelon of the army has gone completely rogue.

Army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa has become the most hated man in Pakistan.

He has also dragged the army’s reputation into mud.

If a proper and honest investigation into this attack were carried out, there is little doubt that it would lead to the army and the intelligence agency, ISI.

Far from serving the country, they have become enemies of the state and the people.

Journalist Arshad Sharif was murdered in Nairobi, Kenya on October 23.

He was forced to flee the country because he was critical of the army’s role in politics.

Dr Shehbaz Gill, chief of staff to Imran Khan, was arrested, stripped naked and tortured for more than a week.

The army was involved in this torture as well as of journalist Jameel Farooqi.

Senator Azam Swati, 74 years old, was similarly humiliated.

He even named the army personnel involved in his torture: ISI DG-C, Major General Faisal Naseer, and Islamabad Sector Commander Brigadier Faheem Raza.

With their criminal conduct, these army personnel are setting the stage for the day when the masses will drag them into the streets and beat them to death.

These morons in uniform are pushing the country towards civil war.
