Hidden hands behind the burning of mosques in Turkey

Crescent International

Why the sudden eruption of sectarianism in Turkey resulting in the burning of mosques of Shias and Sunnis? Informed observers believe this is meant to undermine growing ties between two regional giants–Turkey and Iran--despite their differences on such issues as Syria. President Hassan Rouhani of Iran has arrived in Turkey and is expected to sign the Iran-Turkey High Council of Strategic Cooperation agreement.

The burning of “Allahu Akbar” mosque used by Shia Muslims in Istanbul’s Esenyurt district hours prior to Iranian President’s visit to Turkey is a sign that sectarianism in the Muslim world is foreign instigated.

Reporting from Istanbul, Islamazeri, an online Azeri Islamic news portal, said a mosque named after “Omer ibn al-Khattab” used by Sunni Muslims was set on fire in a similar manner five days ago.

Informed observers are of the view that the burning of mosques of different Islamic sects is most likely linked to the announcement by Iran's ambassador to Turkey Alireza Bigdeli that “during this trip [of President Hassan Rouhani to Turkey starting on June 9], Iran-Turkey High Council of Strategic Cooperation will be formed for the first time.”

A strategic cooperation agreement between Islamic Iran and Turkey is a nightmare scenario for imperialist and Zionists interests in the Muslim world. It would be naïve to view the attacks on Sunni and Shia mosques outside of the global war on Islam.

Even though Ankara and Tehran have major differences on the approach to the foreign instigated war on Syria, the leadership of both countries has demonstrated great prudence in agreeing to disagree on Syria and being able to cooperate on other strategic matters. This approach bears the sagacity and wisdom of the Rahbar, Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei that has saved the region from greater calamities of foreign instigated sectarianism.

The ability of Turkey and Iran to contain their differences on Syria within that country is a model for Muslim politicians on how to prevent wider sectarian conflict in the Muslim world.

Turkey and Iran are two of the most powerful Muslim states in terms of soft and hard power. Cooperation between these two states even on a limited scale would benefit the entire Muslim Ummah.

It is not surprising that a Strategic Cooperation agreement between the two would arouse the worst fears of the imperialists and zionists and their local agents that have cause havoc in the region.
