While the people of Syria continue to suffer as a consequence of the foreign-inspired war in the country, the so-called poliitical opposition led by the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) as well as the mercenary rebel and takfiri forces refuse to participate in dialogue scheduled for Geneva on January 22, 2014 to resolve the crisis. They are, however, losing the battle inside Syria, both politically and militarily.

The much-talked about and repeatedly delayed Geneva conference on Syria is again in jeopardy. Yesterday when the UN Secretary General Ban Ki moon announced that the second conference on Syria to be held in Geneva—hence dubbed Geneva-2—will be on January 22, 2014, Louay Safi, a spokesman for the Syrian National Coalition (SNC) immediately said it would attend only if President Bashar al-Asad resigned.
Today another blow was delivered when General Salim Idriss, the self-styled commander of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), said it would not participate in Geneva-2 conference citing the absence of suitable conditions for such a conference.
“Conditions are not suitable for running the Geneva 2 talks at the given date, and we, as a military and revolutionary force, will not participate in the conference,” Idriss told Al Jazeera. He said the FSA would continue to fight against Syrian government forces.
“We will not stop combat at all during the Geneva conference or after it, and what concerns us is getting needed weapons for our fighters,” referring to the desperate situation the rebel forces are facing at the present time.
There has been fierce fighting south of the capital Damascus where rebel forces have been besieged by the Syrian army. The rebels appear desperate. The Syrian army has also made advances in other parts of the country against rebel and foreign mercenaries that go by the name of takfiris.
While the SNC is made up of armchair revolutionaries spending life in five star hotels and have little support at home, the FSA and the rebels are also not finding it easy going inside Syria. Not only are they not able to defeat the Syrian army after nearly three years of fighting but that the Syrian people have also recoiled in horror at their barbaric practices of beheadings, cannibalism etc.
They may not be happy with Asad’s rule but they are certainly not willing to accept cannibals and torturers as their rulers. In any case, evidence from Syria shows that Asad has far more support than the rebels, FSA and SNC combined.
In order to facilitate the conference, the UN-Arab League Special Representative for Syria Lakhdar Brahim has said that the conference would start “without any preconditions.” This appears to be a hard sell, especially when the SNC insists on its demands that Asad must resign before they would attend the conference and the Syrian government has said it would accept no “pre-conditions.”
The ground realities are also changing in Syria. The brutal tactics of the rebels—public beheadings, cannibalism and other forms of barbaric practices—have caused revulsion in most people. The SNC and the rebels were counting on Western, primarily American support. In view of these barbaric practices, they have pulled back a little although not given up completely on destabilizing Syria.
Even some of their regional backers—Qatar and Turkey—have had second thoughts although Saudi Arabia has increased its aid to the rebels. The Saudis are determined to bring down Asad’s government but the tide of events is going against them.
This has further exposed the Saudis as agents of imperialism and Zionism as well as enemies of Allah and Islam.
Saudi intelligence chief Bandar bin Sultan, who is in charge of the Syrian file, is not having much success. The rebels’ failure in Syria and the scaling back of Western support for the rebels, has forced the Saudis to embrace the Zionists publicly.
This has further exposed the Saudis as agents of imperialism and Zionism as well as enemies of Allah and Islam.
Events, however, are moving against them. Their continued support of the rebels and takfiris is only prolonging the agony of the Syrian people that have had to pay a very heavy price in life and limb.
