British Home Secretary Priti Patel has declared the political wing of Hamas a “terrorist” organization. The resistance movement’s military wing, Izz el-Din el-Qassem Brigade was already on the terrorist list. It is interesting to note that Ms. Patel made her announcement while on a visit to Washington DC, that is considered Zionist occupied territory by many commentators.
Britain joins such other ‘champions’ of human rights as the US, Canada and the EU. Both the US and Canada are guilty of perpetrating genocide against the indigenous populations. The overwhelming majority of EU members comprise thieves and bandits that have plundered the resources of peoples in Asia and Africa. With such gory records, it is not surprising that these regimes would side with the illegal squatters in occupied Palestine.
What would Ms. Patel’s action mean for Hamas and its supporters in Britain? The movement’s assets can be seized and its members jailed. While it is not known whether Hamas has any assets in Britain, it may have some members and definitely has supporters in Britain.
Hamas supporters could face up to 14 years in jail. What prompted Ms. Patel to make such a move? She is a well-known Zionist. Her roots are in the Hindu fascist outfit, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), that has slaughtered thousands of Muslims in India. She is believed to be a member of the Vishwa Hindu Parisad (VHP—the Hindu World Council), another extremist outfit. Thus, her anti-Muslim credentials are well established.
While speaking to journalists in Washington DC, Ms. Patel thundered: “Hamas is fundamentally and rabidly anti-Semitic,” without providing proof. When one is a Zionist and a Hindu fascist to boot—a deadly combination—one becomes oblivious to one’s own despicable acts and those of one’s admirers (the Zionists).
Zionist Israel is guilty of egregious crimes against the Palestinian people. These crimes are ongoing, starting from the illegal establishment of Israel on the land of the Palestinian people in 1948 using terror, we must remind Ms. Patel. Such violence against Palestinians continues even today. In successive wars starting in 1948, Zionist gangs and army units murdered hundreds of thousands of Palestinian villagers. Others were ethnically cleansed. This Zionist terror campaign continues as witnessed in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
It is accompanied by attacks on Palestinian homes in the middle of the night and land theft by illegal Zionist squatters. Today Palestinians are in control of less than 22% of their original land. There are more than 4,500 Palestinian political prisoners. Among them are 200 children and 454 women. Most of them have been subjected to horrific torture.
Many Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli jails due to torture or lack of proper medical care. The Zionists are holding the bodies of at least 335 Palestinians, according to the Jerusalem Center for Legal Aid and Human Rights. Some are buried in a secret army cemetery while 81 are kept in freezers at a morgue. Their families beg and plead for the bodies to be released for proper burial. Why Israel indulges in such inhumane practices? The underlying basis for it is the racist attempt to rob Palestinians of their humanity. At its root, this practice treats Palestinians as less than human, according to the Friends of Sabeel North America.
But Britain’s Home Secretary is blind to these Israeli crimes. She screams “anti-Semitism” every time they are highlighted or Zionists are confronted at public forums, as was the case when Israel’s ambassador to Britain Tzipi Hotovely, was jeered during a debate at the London School of Economics (LSE) on November 9. Ms. Patel said she was “disgusted” by the way the Zionist ambassador was treated.
Britain’s Hindu-Zionist home secretary has never uttered even a whisper of concern much less disgust at the manner in which Palestinians are murdered in cold blood by her Zionist masters. Protesters at the LSE event pointed this out saying the ambassador had a track record of anti-Palestinian racism. They shouted pro-Palestinian slogans and chided the ambassador: “Aren’t you ashamed!” They also chanted: “Israel is a terrorist state”.
Ms. Patel could not be unaware of the fact that armed resistance against military occupation is legitimate under international law. On two occasions—in 1974 and 1982—the UN General Assembly categorically stated that people under occupation have the right to resist their occupiers. It was addressed specifically to South African and Palestinian resistance to occupation. The UN vote on December 3, 1982 added the words, “by any means necessary,” to resist military occupation through its resolution 37/43.
The British regime’s rejection of UN resolutions pertaining to Zionist Israel’s misconduct is scandalous. It goes against every tenet of international law and international humanitarian law. Its defence of Zionist crimes is even more indefensible. But we must return to the question of why London has proscribed support for Hamas.
It is evident that while regimes—Western as well as their Arabian puppets—are embracing the Zionists, the masses in many countries have woken up to the suffering of the Palestinian people. They are no longer willing to remain silent. Such strong opposition to Zionist crimes has clearly rattled the British establishment. They are targeting supporters of Hamas in Britain.
Initially this campaign may dampen some support for the legitimate Palestinian struggle, but like the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa, it will ultimately fail. Oppression cannot last for ever; nor can military occupation.
