Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman’s efforts to clear his path to the throne is likely to create a coalition of royals to oppose his rule.
As reported by Al Jazeera and the New York Times, Mohammad bin Salman has targeted the family of a former intelligence official and tried to have him extradited through Interpol when efforts to bribe him failed… Saad al-Jabri has faced false allegations of corruption that have been condemned by the international police organization as a politically motivated campaign to silence critics of the de-facto ruler of the Kingdom.”
Bin Salman’s brutal and crude efforts to secure backing for becoming the next king are creating more foes than friends.
While Bin Salman may ascend the throne, his rule will most likely be characterized by internal tensions.
If Donald Trump’s clique loses the upcoming presidential selection in 2020, the new regime in the White House will most likely wish to see Bin Salman gone, as he has become a political liability for Washington in the region.
